The basic premise of the article is that IT is too important to be left to CIO alone. This is true bearing in mind that information on products, customers and processes relies on IT capabilities that can greatly inhibit or enhance competitive advantage.
IT workers must now work in new ways:
- Understand the business strategy business
- Understand how the company differentiates its products or services over the competition
- Articulate the technical jargon in non- IT business people
- Understand TCO ( Total Cost of Ownership ) and an ROI program
- Ability to discuss and to influence others
